Ananya Health secures $2.3M SBIR grant from the National Cancer Institute to accelerate development of novel cryoablation platform

September 3, 2024

OAKLAND, CA—Ananya Health, Inc. is thrilled to announce the award of a 2-year, $2.3M Phase II SBIR grant from the National Cancer Institute, a division of the National Institutes of Health. Ananya Health is a medical device company building a platform to freeze abnormal tissue before it becomes cervical cancer, without the use of consumable cryogen gas.

This substantial grant supports the continued technical development of the CRCL cryoablation platform towards an initial US FDA regulatory clearance and international market launch. The technical aims build on a successful Phase I grant that proved technical feasibility.

"This grant helps us accelerate our development and bring our cryoablation platform to market in the US and abroad. The CRCL system will have a significant impact on clinics' and clinicians' ability to deliver therapeutic ablation at the point of diagnosis, and lower the barriers for women to access care in their local communities. We're excited to work alongside our partners toward the vision of a world without cervical cancer," said Anu Parvatiyar, cofounder & CEO of Ananya Health.

In addition to grant funding, Ananya Health has raised an additional $250k from existing investors, including eha Impact Ventures (EIV). Subsequently, Evelyn Castle, CEO & Co-founder of EIV, joined Ananya Health's board as a Board Observer in early 2024. EIV’s decades of operational and strategic experience will be a strong asset to the organization in navigating development and commercialization.

Castle says, "We are proud of Ananya Health’s progress in developing a battery-operated cryoablation device that destroys precancerous cervical tissues. The company continues to refine this innovative technology, generating compelling test data that highlights its potential impact. We are proud to be an early investor and are excited to support their efforts to establish partnerships and facilitate the adoption of this device across Africa and Asia. This technology will be a game-changer in preventing cervical cancer.”
